League of Legends review
League of Legends is a free to play multiplayer online battle arena game. After downloading and installing the game you are given the option to go through a training process. The game is fairly straight forward, but I do recommend completing this. After this training you can find all your stats and game updates on the home screen. I recommend that you verify your email which will give you a 10 win bonus to help you level up faster. You can now finally play your first online game. This is a 5v5, Players vs Bots game and your only choice of map will be Summoners Rift.
You start off in the bottom left corner at the shop. You have a few seconds to browse for items. If you are on the beginner difficulty the game will generate items that you should buy. Your choices of items increase along with your difficulty. After a few seconds you are free to explore the land. You will get an update shortly after reading enemies spawning in 30 seconds. You can choose a place to try to ambush the enemies or place defense and wait by one of your turrets. On beginner it's fairly easy, so ambushing is a good idea. Once you level up a few times beating the minions you can press your luck in the river or forest. There are various creatures that grant your team bonuses if you can defeat them. Those stat increases come in handy in the higher difficulties. Once you level up you can add permanent stat boosts to your player. When you hit level 3 you can play the player vs player mode. Which is essentially the same as before but of course you're not playing bots. Then after that you unlock a new 3v3 player vs bot map called The Twisted Treeline at level 5.
This map is much smaller than Summoners Rift and you will die much more due to the size. Bringing a good strategy to this map is a must. For those looking for that extra boost of help, here is a great guide to assist you. Now it seems like you keep unlocking new content and you don't know where to stop. You're just barely starting to find a groove with your favorite champion and then you hit level 6. Here you unlock a new ARAM (All Random All Mid) mode with a new map called Howling Abyss.
In this game mode there is only one direction, the middle. That favorite champion of yours is also something you shouldn't have become accustom to because your champion is random for this mode. Most of the games require you to stay in the middle lane at all times, unless of course you die. These games are relatively quick given the size of the map and each team having to go on the aggressive. Now don't get too used to this mode and map because at level 7 you unlock another map! Yay for content! This one is called Dominion and features the normal 5v5 mode.
Now don't get to used to all this content. You won't unlock any new game modes until you are a level 30. So you will have to make these maps and modes last. At this point you have a basic understanding of the game and now have a handful of maps and modes to choose from. You will most likely have about 12 hours of gameplay under your belt and will be at the point I am now. Giving the game a review based upon those 12 hours. My rating is based on 3 major items. Quality of Content (Maps, Characters, Leveling system) Fun Factor (Basically how fast does the time pass) Replay Value (How likely are you to continue to play after the first 12 hours)
Quality of Content:
The maps are all highly detailed and very cleverly designed. From the location of creatures that allow you to boost your teams stats to the placement of turrets. The characters really stand out and don't blend with the ground in anyway. It's nice to see that in a game with an eagle eye view. The leveling system is pretty slow. It's something most gamers are accustom to with the first few levels. However it's not a noticeable thing unless you're looking to unlock all the maps in a fast span of time. Overall I would give the content a 8 out of 10.
Fun Factor:
My 12 hours of gameplay flew by. I spent most of my time playing 5v5 on summoners rift. I had unlocked two other maps before I even knew it. The game up to this point is fantastic. There's not much more to say 10 out of 10 here.
Replay Value:
I've had the game loaded in the background for the duration of me writing this. The game leaves you wanting to play more and quite frankly I find it hard to sleep at night. I'm looking to play again and the first thing I do in the morning is load it to play another game. I'm worried that the game will start to drag in the later levels so I'll give it a 9 out of 10.
Brief conclusion:
The game gets a 90 overall for me. The matchmaking is a fast process and the games don't drag. I highly recommend to anyone who likes awesome FREE games.
